Tuna Fishing Looe

Experience the thrill of catching Bluefin Tuna from the rich offshore waters off Looe, Cornwall.

The tuna season here usually runs from late July through to mid-November, though it can vary slightly each year depending on the weather and the fish movements. By December, things usually start to quieten down as the fish move on.

Most of our Bluefin Tuna fishing is done on the troll using lures and spreader bars, though we also use live bait and sometimes try a bit of popping (casting lures) when conditions are right. We generally troll with up to four rods, using tried-and-tested homemade lures that have brought plenty of success over the year.

We’re always guided by DEFRA and MMO licensing rules for the season, and every tuna we hook is handled carefully and released alive.

The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) is one of the ocean’s most powerful fish. Once common around our shores, they disappeared for many years but have now made a remarkable return to UK waters. In recent seasons, more and more of these magnificent fish have been seen feeding off the Cornish coast, following shoals of sprats, herring and mackerel.

It’s a privilege to be able to see and fish for these incredible animals in Cornish seas, where they belong.
