Shark Fishing Looe
Shark fishing off Looe — a proper day’s adventure in some of the best waters Cornwall has to offer.
Typhoon specialises in shark fishing trips for blue sharks, porbeagle sharks and, occasionally, thresher sharks out in the deeper waters off the Cornish coast.
We provide all the shark fishing tackle and bait, and operate under a strict catch-and-release policy to ensure these magnificent fish are returned safely to the sea. Every shark is handled carefully and released in good condition.
Cornwall has long been known as one of the UK’s best shark fishing areas, with several British records coming from these very waters. The Gulf Stream brings in warm, clear seas through the summer months, and with the constant supply of mackerel and herring, it’s no surprise that sharks patrol our coastline in good numbers.
Trips usually depart between 07:30 and 09:00, depending on bookings and conditions. Once we leave the harbour at Looe, it takes around an hour to reach the ‘sharking’ grounds, often found just 10–15 miles offshore. Once the rubby dubby slick is set, it’s a matter of patience — and the thrill when that first shark takes is hard to beat.
The best shark fishing tends to be from late June through to early October, when the water’s at its warmest and these cartilaginous fish are most active. Whether you’ve caught sharks before or it’s your first go, it’s a proper Cornish adventure — a day you won’t forget.
